Whether you need a new meter installed, an existing meter upgraded to smart, or help with the application through your electricity retailer, that's exactly what we do. Metric Power is an Ausgrid-accredited ASP Level 2 provider, authorised to carry out the electrical work involved in connecting your meter to the network.
Metering needs vary depending on the property and the reason for the work - a new home needing its first connection, an ageing meter due for a smart upgrade, or a solar installer needing the metering side of a project managed alongside the physical work.
Property details, electricity retailer, NMI, meter numbers, number of phases, controlled load requirements and the type of work requested. You can also attach a recent power bill, site maps or a copy of your driver’s licence.
Yes, we can assist with the application and lodgement requirements with your retailer as part of the metering service.
In most cases, no. If your meter box is easily and safely accessible, the work can usually be completed without you present. Your power will need to be switched off briefly during the installation, but this is typically a short interruption.
In most cases, yes, the opt-out for smart meters has ended as part of the national accelerated rollout, which aims to replace all electricity meters across NSW by 2030. If your meter needs replacing for any reason, its replacement will be a smart meter. If you haven’t been contacted yet, your retailer will get in touch when it’s your turn.
Metering work usually means dealing with more than one party (the electrician, the electricity retailer, and the network) just to get a straightforward upgrade or new connection sorted. Metric Power handles both sides directly: the Level 2 electrical work and the application and lodgement process with your retailer, so you’re not the one coordinating between them.
We work across residential, commercial and industrial projects, and are experienced working alongside builders and other industry professionals where metering needs to be managed as part of a larger job.
Whether you're wanting to arrange a new meter or needing support as part of a solar panel installation, start by submitting the Meter Request Form with your property and project details.
